Abstract

Foot health is frequently compromised by pervasive misconceptions that lead to improper self-care and long-term physiological complications. This study examines six common foot health issues barefoot walking, bunions, blisters, corns and calluses, toenail trimming, and flat feet to distinguish clinical facts from popular myths. While many believe conditions like bunions are merely cosmetic or that blisters should be drained, evidence suggests that these issues can significantly alter foot biomechanics or lead to secondary infections if managed incorrectly.

The findings highlight that proper podiatric care involves evidence-based practices, such as cutting toenails straight across to prevent ingrown nails and utilizing padding for corns rather than dangerous at-home surgical scraping. Furthermore, the study clarifies that flat feet and barefoot walking are not inherently pathological but require situational caution based on comfort and surface safety. By promoting early awareness and differentiating between myths and facts, the public can adopt proactive care routines that mitigate the risk of infection and chronic discomfort.
